Michelle Schroeder is wildlife researcher who uses conservation detection dogs to locate black-footed cat scats in Southern Africa for scientific studies. She and some colleagues were ready to a start conservation detection dog organization and asked if I could create a logo that captured diverse concepts. I based the dog illustration on photos of her first detection dog, Knysna. The outline, of course, represents Africa, and the subtle shapes beneath the dog suggest both a scent as well as the DNA studied in the samples collected. The earth tones evoke the nature themed mission of the organization “detect to protect”.
